Can you be a highly successful inventor? Are you able to rise up in the face of defeat? Never take no for an answer, and keep your emotions in check. Every day hundreds of inventors are learning what most thriving inventors already know the qualities one must possess to be successful. As a patent attorney. With over 25 years of experience, I've been able to help over 1200 inventors move forward with their idea and lead them down a path of success. Thanks to my proven nine step roadmap. Today I'm going to share the five characteristics that each of my most successful inventors share with famous inventors like Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, and Elon Musk. Number five, perseverance. Steve Jobs once said, I'm convinced that about half of what separates successful entrepreneurs from the non successful ones is pure perseverance. The road to becoming patent pending is long and frustrating, but it can be rewarding. When my client Troy fillet tried lost his wife and father in the same year, he was ready to give up on everything, including his idea. When I met with him, Troy had a passionate sense of purpose, and he fought to get his inflatable throwable device patented and approved by the US Coast Guard. Number four discretion. Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx said I made a conscious decision not to tell anyone in my life. Now I tell people, don't tell anyone your idea until you have invested enough of yourself in it, that you are not going to turn back. When a person has an idea at that conception moment. It's the most vulnerable. one negative comment could knock you off course, the most successful inventors understand the importance of privacy and discretion. Not only can a negative comment discourage you, but you also risk someone stealing your idea if revealed prematurely before you failed. Number three hard work. I've never met an inventor who's had an easy journey. Some of my clients have had to drop out of school, take on loans, adjust their ideas, and more hard work comes with being a successful inventor. Here's what Elon Musk had to say, work like hell. I mean, you just have to put in 80 to 100 hour weeks every week. This proves the odds of success. If other people are putting in 40 hour work weeks and you're putting in 100 hour work weeks, then even if you're doing the same thing you know that you will achieve in four months what it takes them a year to achieve number two sense of urgency. Someone once said that the secret to success is to stop wishing and start doing the difference between highly successful inventors and regular inventors is their sense of urgency. Acting quick is now more important than ever since 2013. The US now operates on a first to file provision. This means it does not matter who has the idea first, only who files for the idea first. Number one. Fearlessness Henry Ford once said that one of the greatest discoveries a man makes one of his great surprises is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do. Inventors eliminate fear from their vocabulary, because fear keeps you stuck. Whether you're afraid to start something now, or scared to fail, oftentimes you discover the opposite. As Thomas Edison once famously said I have not failed. I just found 10,000 ways that won't work. The characteristics that make up successful inventors can be found in anyone. All it takes is a conscious effort to persevere, have discretion. Work hard, work fast, and be fearless. If you enjoyed this video, give it a thumbs up.
