Hi, I'm John Reese he, the patent professor, having been a patent attorney for 20 years, and a professor of patent law for 15. I am often asked by inventors if it is safe to conduct searches online using Google or other public search engines. Well, online searching using public search engines does come with some risks. For example, there are marketing companies that track and monitor keyword searches. And in the process of searching, it is possible you might inadvertently give away your idea to others. For example, if your invention was a glow in the dark kite, you might search for these terms. Someone at a search engine optimization company would see that the search was done for a glow in the dark height. And it might trigger them to look into patenting the idea themselves. If you have questions regarding the patent search, call me John Rizvi, the patent professor. Let me make patenting easy for you.
